The Canadian Traveler Privacy Policy
The Canadian Traveler understands your right to privacy. This policy is effective as of its update on December 30th, 2010 and governs the collection of personal information through thecanadiantraveler.ca from this date forth.
The information contained in this policy is designed to describe the types and methods of information collection, and how information about individuals is used. Please inform yourself of the details of this policy before providing any personal information, and contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
Information we collect:
If you choose to register with us, or to post on our blog style review sections, we will collect additional information than from the average web user (see below for collection of information from non-registered users which also pertains to registered users). The information we require for users to register is quite limited. We will collect a username, email address, and password.
The information collected varies by user and area of the site accessed, however, we only collect information manually entered by users, except for those users who have registered and upload information to our Photo Gallery. The gallery, powered by Gallery2 analyzes uploaded photos for camera specifications, etc. This information is not linked to individual users.
Some, or all, of this information may be stored in a ‘cookie’ on your computer so that our system will recognize you upon returning to our site. This saves your preferences and login information to make the site easier for you to use.
If you visit our site through a third party (or site partner) and you have registered with said third party then certain information may be transmitted to us. In order to understand how this works you should review the privacy policy from the site that directed you to us. Our third party vendor uses cookies to serve the ads displayed on The Canadian Traveler and to track their usage.
IP addresses are logged in order to help diagnose issues with our server, to contribute to the collection of site usage statistics and for use in other areas of site administration. Your IP address may be static (the same) or dynamic (changing) each time you visit, regardless it will never be used to identify you individually and, even if this was our purpose, it would be difficult to do so. We log information on how users access our site; i.e. if you click on a link or advertisement this information is recorded in an effort to help us make the most of our advertising budget, maximize our exposure, and understand our users, their interests and the nature of their encounter with our site. This information is used only in an overall or general basis and will never be used to analyze individual site users.
Disclosure of your personal information:
The Canadian Traveler will not sell, rent or otherwise intentionally distribute user personal information to any third party, other than our partners as discussed above. We may use aggregate/overall information for distribution to other parties including advertisers for marketing purposes. As outlined above this will be done in a way which will not allow any third party to identify individuals personally. We may share your personal information with third parties providing specific services to The Canadian Traveler in which case we will require those parties to agree to use any personally-identifiable data solely for the purposes of providing their services to The Canadian Traveler.
Remember that The Canadian Traveler is required to cooperate with legal authorities, and in certain circumstances may need to disclose personally identifiable information in response to subpoena or other legal process. In this case we will only provide the information required.
Your profile on our blog is publicly viewable via your username. We will not share your email address or any method of contact.
Protection of your personal information:
There are a number of security features installed by The Canadian Traveler and our web host to protect the personal information stored on our site and systems, however, please know that there is no way for us to guarantee the security of user’s personal information.
The Canadian Traveler targets a general audience, and does not knowingly collect information about children. Should a child whom we know to be under 13 share their personal information with us, we will use that information only to respond to that user informing them that we must have parental consent before receiving his or her personal information.
We reserve the right to change this policy should it be deemed necessary. Please monitor this privacy policy to determine if you continue to accept the terms laid out in this policy. Should a significant change be made that affects your personal information that has already been collected we will make reasonable efforts to notify you, however, users are responsible to keep themselves informed of the contents of this policy. |
